[Windows] Browser, Chrome connector, and Computer Use fail with “Reconnecting 5/5”

All local browser and computer-control channels in the Windows ChatGPT/Codex desktop app fail to connect.

Observed behavior:

1. Built-in Browser reaches “Reconnecting 5/5” and cannot open https://example.com, inspect page contents, or click the “Learn more” link.

1. Earlier, the app reported that the local Browser component was rejected by trusted-path validation.

1. The official ChatGPT browser extension is installed and enabled in Microsoft Edge. Connection attempts end with a technical error. Codex can only obtain the Edge window title from the Windows window list; it cannot access the page contents or perform clicks.

1. Computer Use also reaches “Reconnecting 5/5”, requests permission, and then stops without clicking.

Troubleshooting already performed:

• Completely uninstalled and reinstalled the ChatGPT desktop app.
• Tested with a brand-new clean .codex profile.
• Restored the original profile and reproduced the same issue.
• Confirmed that Browser is enabled in Settings.
• Restarted all ChatGPT background processes.
• Tested an explicit localhost and 127.0.0.1 system-proxy bypass; it made no difference, so the original proxy settings were restored.
• OpenAI Status reports all systems operational.

Expected behavior:

Built-in Browser, the Edge connector, or Computer Use should be able to connect, inspect the page, and click the link.

Actual behavior:

Every local control channel fails to establish a connection and reaches “Reconnecting 5/5”.

What is the expected behavior?

The selected local-control channel should connect successfully.

The built-in Browser should open https://example.com, read “Example Domain”, click the “Learn more” link, and report the destination URL.

The Edge connector and Computer Use should also be able to inspect and control their corresponding Windows applications without reaching “Reconnecting 5/5”.
