I had an in app update yesterday.
As soon as I did the update the app reloaded fine. But when I navigated in the chatgpt side to any of my in progress chats it sent the app into a logout state and forced a relog through
"https://chatgpt.com/codex/open-app?source=login&app_brand=chatgpt"

I logged in and the app unlocked as expected. But then the process repeated every time I tried to go to a chat. Starting a brand new chat would allow the prompt to be sent. Confirmed via other ways to access the chat system.

Went through a couple recovery processes

  1. Closed the app entirely and killed all child processes. Relaunched, no change.
  1. Repeated complete app shutdown. Moved the .config/codex and .cache/codex folders to force refresh and clearly of cached keys and tokens. No change.
  1. I am using 26.810.52044 but that is only becauuse that is the currently working version. I didn't catch the version number of the actual update. I had access to it through the update app icon in the bottom left of the desktop app yesterday. The recovery that worked. I had my original installer .deb still. I competely removed it via dpkg and then did a reinstall after cleaning the processes out and it's working again.

I have the same problem with the Version 26.818.21641 on Windows 11.
It started today. Since morning I did login many times but it didn't work.
I select any conversation and Codex suddenly jumps to login page.

I'm noticing the same issue on 26.818.41705 on my M5 Pro trying to sign-in with Google Chrome. Clicking a previous thread, or the agent finishing a task seems to trigger the sign-out. Re-installing didn't work. However I tried changing my default browser to Safari so Codex makes me login through there and it seems to be working normal again without the login loop bug.

I also encountered this problem, and then copied the latest authion.json to my friend, but it could only last for a short time, and after a period of time, it would automatically exit the session when I entered it

I am seeing a very similar authentication loop on Linux.

App version: 26.820.71523
Platform: Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS, x86_64, X11, kernel 6.8.0-138-generic

Browser authentication succeeds, and the app briefly enters the main interface before returning to the login screen. The desktop process remains running.

I'm also logged out, when I click any existing session.

Additional checks:

MFA was already enabled.
codex login status reports Logged in using ChatGPT.
~/.codex/auth.json is created successfully.
The CLI login callback reports has_error=false state_valid=true.
No managed login/workspace configuration was found.
No new desktop/Codex session appears under Active sessions during the login attempt.
