What issue are you seeing?
During an active Voice conversation in Codex, the assistant's spoken voice unexpectedly changed to a noticeably different, female-sounding voice. The previous voice had been consistent approximately five minutes earlier.
I did not change Settings > Voice, choose another voice, or intentionally start a new voice call. The change appeared around a session reconnect or continuation and persisted in subsequent spoken responses.
I also attempted to submit this through the built-in realtime voice-feedback route several times, but the feedback service reported that it was unavailable. This is consistent with the known feedback-path reliability problem tracked in #15945.
Steps to reproduce
The exact trigger is intermittent:
- Start a Voice conversation in Codex Desktop.
- Continue the same conversation while coordinating background tasks.
- Allow the conversation to reconnect or resume after a brief interruption.
- Observe that the synthesized voice may change identity without a settings action or a deliberate new call.
Expected behavior
The selected voice should remain stable throughout an active conversation and across transparent reconnects. It should change only after an explicit user selection, with the documented new-call behavior.
