[Bug] Clean Debian 13 install of CLI 0.148.0 repeatedly reports Data Analytics and Cloudflare MCP startup failures
What version of Codex CLI is running?
0.148.0 — customer-facing release.
What subscription do you have?
Not provided.
Which model were you using?
Not recorded; the warnings occur at CLI startup.
What platform is your computer?
Clean Debian 13 Linux installation. The kernel version and CPU architecture have not yet been captured.
What terminal emulator and version are you using (if applicable)?
Not provided.
Codex doctor report
Not yet collected from the affected Debian machine.
What issue are you seeing?
After a fresh Codex CLI installation on a clean Debian 13 system, every launch of codex reports MCP startup failures. The reported messages are:
MCP client for dataAnalyticsWidgets failed to start
cloudflare-api MCP server is not logged in
MCP startup incomplete
These are the warning lines reported by the affected user, not a complete diagnostic log. It has not yet been established whether the failures block the main Codex session.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Start with a clean Debian 13 installation.
- Install the customer-facing Codex CLI 0.148.0.
- Run
codex. - Observe the Data Analytics and Cloudflare MCP warnings.
- Exit and run
codexagain. The warnings recur on every launch.
The installation command and account-synced plugin state have not yet been captured. A clean local installation does not establish that the account has no synced plugins.
What is the expected behavior?
A clean CLI installation should start without unexplained failures from optional integrations. If an account-synced plugin requires authentication or a missing runtime, Codex should identify that requirement clearly and provide a working way to configure or disable the affected integration.
Additional information
The affected user also recalls seeing a similar Cloudflare warning in the Windows desktop app and logging into an existing Cloudflare account. The Windows app version is unknown, and impact on the current Windows desktop app has not been reproduced.
Possibly related:
- #39682: CLI 0.148.0 on Linux initializes remote plugins despite
remote_plugin=false, including Cloudflare. That setting has not been tested in this Debian report. - #34859: Cloudflare startup warning followed by the MCP login command failing to resolve the server. That additional login failure has not been reproduced here.
- #29206: a synced Data Analytics plugin fails on Linux when Node.js is missing. That report names
datascienceWidgets; this report namesdataAnalyticsWidgets. Missing Node.js is not a confirmed cause here.
Filing with the available facts so the Debian startup experience can be triaged without treating a possible cause or the Windows recollection as confirmed.
