[macOS][26.818.41509] Sidebar and Activity view no longer show generated task summaries

What issue are you seeing?

The generated last-turn/task summary that previously appeared beneath task titles is no longer visible in either the normal sidebar or Activity view.

Task rows now show only the title followed by project/location metadata. This happens for both active and pinned tasks, including existing tasks that previously had generated summaries. Waiting for the sidebar to refresh does not bring the summary back, and there is no visible setting to enable it.

Because the same summary is absent from both surfaces, it is difficult to tell the latest state or outcome of similarly named tasks without opening each conversation.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

1. Open ChatGPT / Codex desktop 26.818.41509 on macOS.
2. Complete a turn in a task and return to the sidebar.
3. Enable Activity view using the bell icon.
4. Inspect the task under Priority or Pinned after the view refreshes.
5. Observe that the secondary line shows only project/location metadata; no generated last-turn/task summary is displayed.
6. Switch back to the normal sidebar and observe that the summary is absent there as well.

What is the expected behavior?

Restore a compact generated last-turn/task summary in both the normal sidebar and Activity view while retaining project identity. Possible layouts include:

• project identity plus a separate summary line;
• a summary shown on hover or keyboard focus;
• or a user setting to choose project metadata, summaries, or both.

Additional information

This may be related to recent attempts to balance generated summaries against visible project identity:

• #38797 reports that Activity view lost project names and icons when summaries were shown.
• #39433 reports project labels being replaced by generated summaries after refresh in build 26.814.41407.
• #40203 requests exposing task summaries through sidebar hover.

The current build appears to have restored project/location metadata by removing the summary entirely. Preserving both pieces of information would avoid reopening tasks merely to identify their latest state.

No task titles, workspace names, or private conversation content are included in this report.
