The ChatGPT Chrome extension reports: “Codex Chrome native host is out of date.”
I have fully updated and reinstalled ChatGPT and the Chrome extension, restarted both applications, and reproduced it in a new conversation.
Installed versions:
- ChatGPT app: 26.820.71523
- Chrome: 152.0.7977.64
- ChatGPT Chrome extension: 1.2.27268.51612
Local diagnostics confirm that the extension is installed and enabled, the native-host manifest exists, all extension origins match, and the host points to the current bundled helper. Nevertheless, ChatGPT can expose only the ChatGPT tab and rejects access to Chrome’s full tab list.
Please check for a server/extension/native-host protocol rollout mismatch.

What is the expected behavior?
Please organise tabs into my Trello board. Look for the most relevant cards and put them in the most relevant checklist. If one doesn't exist then please create it. Please capitalise any newly created card and checklist titles. Do not add duplicate links. Please organise the cards as you go. Once you've organised the tab into Trello, please let me know the location of where it's organised to.
Before creating any Trello card or checklist, search the entire target board thoroughly. Search card titles, descriptions, checklist titles, and checklist items using multiple relevant keywords and synonyms. Open and inspect every plausible matching card. Only create something after confirming that no suitable existing destination exists. If uncertain, ask me before creating it. Never treat a card-title search alone as sufficient.
Use this order: search → inspect all candidates → check for duplicates → choose the best existing card/checklist → create only as a last resort → verify the final placement.

I can confirm the same issue on Windows 10.
Environment:
The extension can provide the active page text, but Codex cannot visually inspect, click, or control the Chrome tab and reports that the Chrome native host is outdated.
Chrome shows “Manage” under Settings > Computer Use, and the affected website is not on the blocklist. I have already reinstalled and updated both applications, restarted Windows, repaired the native-host registration and configuration, and verified that extension-host.exe and all required runtime files are present and running.
I submitted
/feedbackfrom the affected chat with the current session logs included and also escalated the case through OpenAI Support.Since this occurs with the same Codex and Chrome-extension versions on both macOS and Windows, it appears to be a cross-platform capability-negotiation or rollout mismatch rather than a local installation problem.
