seems like codex will read AGENTS.md in ~/.codex/AGENTS.md
What version of Codex is running?
codex-cli 0.41.0
Which model were you using?
gpt-5-codex high
What platform is your computer?
Darwin 25.0.0 arm64 arm
What steps can reproduce the bug?
codex command line output:
<img width="1019" height="170" alt="Image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/4fd436ae-8b31-48d3-9b4a-d56d63de65dc" />
it says:
Currently, there is only the root-level AGENTS.md in the warehouse, and it does not require me to respond in Linus' tone. I will read and follow the instructions in these files. If you want me to switch to a specific tone, just tell me directly.
▌ But it’s stated in ~/.codex/AGENTS.md. Can’t you read it?
• Explored└ Read AGENTS.md
Of course I can read it, but I won’t do so by default. According to the current agreement, I only need to automatically follow the AGENTS.md in the engineering warehouse directory tree (i.e., /Users/dszdsxc/Desktop/Codespace/tailwind-nextjs-starter-blog and its subdirectories). ~/.codex/AGENTS.md is located in another directory tree, and its instructions will not be automatically applied to this warehouse; only if you explicitly request it will I respond in the Linus character style specified in that file. Do you want me to switch to that tone?
What is the expected behavior?
This is my first time using Codex. Is this the correct behavior?
What do you see instead?
