/status cannot be used before any model invocation

Description

When opening Codex and running /status immediately after startup, it shows nothing or fails to return usage information.
However, after invoking any message, /status starts working as expected.

This behavior is confusing, since users may want to check their usage before running any model calls.

Expected behavior

/status should be available right after Codex starts — even before any model has been invoked.
