Drag-dropping a file on codex many times pastes clipped / missing file path

Resolved 💬 2 comments Opened Oct 24, 2025 by guidedways Closed Jan 10, 2026

What version of Codex is running?

0.48.0

What subscription do you have?

Pro

Which model were you using?

gpt-5-codex high

What platform is your computer?

macOS

What issue are you seeing?

I'm using iTerm in case that matters but it seems to only happen with codex (and not other terminal TUIs / CLIs etc).

80% of the times I'll drag and drop a file from Xcode or another app on the mac, even Finder, and it'll show me a clipped path or just a few random characters from the entire path, something like e gui/ not the actual full absolute path. I then delete this, keep retrying and it finally works after the 3rd or 4th try.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  • Drag a file from Xcode to codex running in iTerm
  • OR drag an image taken with CleanShot X and it'll paste do the same, I have to then save the image to the desktop first, keep trying till it works after 2nd or 3rd try

What is the expected behavior?

  • It should paste the full absolute path to the file every time
