I think Codex is down, but it's not reported or showing as down.

can confirm. does half the job then stuck. worked till a few minutes ago (used it all day long without an issue)

same for me, codex seems down, sometimes switching to gpt-5.1-codex instead of max works but it's not consistent.

it got up for a moment, to revert some 'problematic commitst', then went back down

I actually hadn't updated yet, was on a older model and was having this same issue. Just updated to try to fix it and it's still the same thing.

Same here. I tried rolling back to 0.61 same issue. It was working this morning fine.

I thought I was going insane! I am experiencing the same issue.

The team is still working on the issue. Here's a link to the incident page. There is a "subscribe to updates" button on that page if you want to be notified when there are updates.

Anyone think OpenAI will jump on this this weekend or since its probably a mid product they won't? I was having some good fun with it.

Seeing the same thing. I believe this is a VS Code issue. They published an update for "Agents Sessions" and ever since, my codex extension stopped working. If I am lucky the API returns one short request but after that get's stuck in 'Thinking'. No problems until yesterday.

I noticed this started happening for me immediately after I accidentally pasted a gargantuan console log from chrome into the codex vscode plugin.

so maybe I broke it.

I checked and the API token is really working. However, in just one request, I used up about 10% of what I pay monthly for the GPT Plus subscription. No way! lol

Yup, you right, @nachoal the source of truth will always be https://status.openai.com/incidents/01KAPG4EE5JWEV04TPZ2SNNK8X#updates so as long as it is not reported as solved we should not celebrate yet

Issue has returned as of 8:58pm est 11/22/25

Running Ubuntu 24.04 with VS code updated, and the Pro Codex-Max is still just hanging at the "thinking" stage.

Having the same issues, just says "Working" again across the baord

for me, seems like if you ask it a question related to the codebase, it works. and instantly. however, if you ask it to execute a task it hangs/stuck on 'thinking'....

mine was working fine, all up until last night when it just started loading infinitely. been stuck on loading since last night, not even thinking, cant see my chats, nothing. Guess i either gotta go back to the basics and write it myself like a peasant, or switch to claude.
