Emoji rendering is inconsistent across different terminal environments.

Observed Behavior

  1. Inconsistent emoji display style: Text-style emojis render differently depending on the terminal type - some display as text characters while others render as emoji graphics. This varies between:
  • VSCode integrated terminal
  • PowerShell terminal
  1. Missing emoji display: Certain emojis fail to render completely. Example:
  • Rocket emoji (🚀) does not display in the output

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Emojis should render consistently across all terminal environments, with a fallback mechanism for terminals that don't support emoji rendering.

  • The warning emoji was rendered as text style
  • The rocket emoji rendered correctly

powershell terminal

  • The warning emoji was rendered as emoji-style, but no extra space between the emoji and the following characters, causing text to run together.
  • Rocket emoji (🚀) is not visible

Comparison

When running gemeni-cli with PowerShell, the Rocket emoji (🚀) displays correctly, indicating that the issue is specific to codex and not a general PowerShell limitation.

This issue was caused by crossterm side Windows Emoji Picker not recognised in KeyCode::Char

I have a similar issue. When I'm pasting text with emojies, only the first emoji is copy-pasted
