codex does not respond to user input, even after nudging

1: codex gives response with question
2: user inputs answer (in simple cases just 'option b') + enter
3: nothing happens on the codex site of the session
4: user inputs . just to make sure the session is running
5: same as 3
6: user ends codex
7: user restarts codex
8: user resumes session
9: user gives anwer as in 2 ('option b')
10: codex understands the answer and moves on, gives next output including question
11: see 2
