Exactly like Bash does it -- from its man page: ``edit-and-execute-command (C-x C-e) Invoke an editor on the current command line, and execute the result as shell commands. Bash attempts to invoke $VISUAL, $EDITOR, and emacs as the editor, in that order.`Of course one could always get to the beginning of the line, type in/editor`, and press enter, but I figured it could be a nice addition. If there is appetite for including this, I might even try to implement this myself.

Thanks for the feedback! We're primarily focused on the native/Rust implementation of Codex CLI and would love to see if this feature request is still relevant on the latest version. If it is, feel free to try implementing it in the
codex-rs/implementation.I don't understand why this was closed, this is still relevant to the current version of the application and AFAIK it has not been implemented.
@brad-modular, I think this was closed because it was targeted at the original TypeScript implementation of the Codex CLI. The CLI has since been reimplemented in Rust, so we closed out some of the earlier bug reports and enhancement requests. If this is a feature you'd like to see in the latest version of the CLI, could you open a new enhancement request and describe your desired behavior? Or if you think that this ticket accurately captures what you're looking for, I can reopen it. Let me know what you prefer.
It looks as if the rust version recently got this feature, so no need to re-open -- thanks!
